The carbon content of high carbon steel wire ranges from 0.35% to 1.0%.
Very high tensile high carbon steel wire can be produced from severe cold drawing. However, this can only be achieved with a very fine grain structure so the high carbon steel wire must be patented (controlled cooling) at the rod coil stage.
These wires are used for manufacture of Auto Cables, Steel wire ropes, Cold formed Spring (Tension / Compression), Wire forms and Cotter pins.
